Be "In the Outdoors" every third Saturday from April through October! Experience all that Seth B. Atwood park as to offer during a FREE monthly series of activities that highlight different aspects of the park. Bring the entire family for a few hours of fun in nature. No registration is required! Natural Area Workdays
April - October
Situated along the beautiful Kishwaukee River, Atwood Park boasts 334 acres of diverse natural area, including forest, marsh, and prairieland. Each of these areas needs special attention, and you can help! From April through October, join us on the second Tuesday of the month to leave your imprint on one of the largest parks in the Rockford Park District!
Snacks and equipment will be provided. All ages welcome. Youth under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult. This is a great opportunity for scout groups, youth groups, or those looking for service hours!
Natural Area Workdays runs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Groups interested in a specialized project, please call 815.966.8747 for more information.

Fees: $130 resident, $165 non-resident
Time: Monday through Friday, 8:30am- 4:30pm
Every week, Nature Quest offers an introductory camp experience with a different theme. Typical camp activities include archery, hiking, singing, games, crafts, and tie-dyeing. To add to the fun, there are weekly field trips, visits by special guests, and live animal demonstrations. Plan on joining us each Thursday for “Family Night,” and see for yourself how much fun your child had at Nature Quest! Extended care is available with an additional $30 fee. Extended Care allows you to drop off your child between 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. and to pick up your child between 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Intro to Family Camping

Ever wonder what it would be like to sleep outside in a tree house? Now you can experience it by staying in the Birds of Prey exhibit at the Atwood Center. Enjoy campfire meals and stay under the stars in this very unique exhibit. Program includes meals, guided hikes, and a live Birds of Prey show; all you need to bring is yourself, a sleeping bag, and any personal items. Children need to be accompanied by an adult on this one-of-a-kind experience. Restrooms are available, and the indoor facility can be used in the case of inclement weather.
